Simon Mahoney
Simon Mahoney was born into a Naval family and spent much of his early years on the South Coast of England. He subsequently joined the Royal Marines and this combined with his childhood experiences resulted in an interest in the sea and naval history. He is primarily a maritime painter in watercolours and was trained in London, Birmingham and Leicester.
His work has been exhibited in the Republic of Ireland and numerous small galleries in the South and Midlands of England. He has carried out commissions for the United States Air Force, United States Army, The Admiralty, numerous Local Government organisations and helicopter companies. His work has been exported to America, Germany, Holland, Australia and the Middle East.
His main interest is in Naval history and he has carried out commissions of most of the actions in the War of 1812 with America and numerous other actions during the Napoleonic War. He has also carried out numerous aviation and landscape commissions for private individuals and corporations. A recent project was to restore some priceless relief Stations of the Cross at a Roman Catholic Church.
Simon can work from photographs but insists on discussing every detail with commissioners so that both he and the commissioner have a shared vision of what is required and
expected before the work commences. He is also keen to keep his
prices reasonable and the turn round time as short as possible - depending on commitments under one month, although his record is 36 hours!
